Description

Reflecting on the Romantic tradition of painting, Lara explored the battle of forces of nature through the use of strong lines, powerful texture, and a monochromatic grey palette. The painting represents the confusion of elements, the state of a storm.

While art historians and critics have insisted throughout the centuries that grey is not a colour, that it is a non-colour, this painting demonstrates that grey is indeed a colour. As one can point out, the background of the painting was once covered in Cadmium Orange lines and iridescent gold deep, however, the further away one is from the painting, everything dissolves in grey and the paler and bluer the orange lines become. The viewer is left with grand illusions – ironical oases – in the neutral grey desert.

Lara further referred to the parallel between a natural storm and a mind storm, suggesting that sometimes human judgment gets clouded and clear vision could be lost, but just as the storm of weather comes and goes so does the storm of mind.
