In this work, Lara avoids representing her own emotions. Instead, she strives to stimulate emotional responses in the viewer by considering the psychological qualities of colour and referring to the Munsell colour system. The system arranges colours based on three properties of it: hue (basic colour), chroma (intensity of colour), and value (lightness).
She assesses the Munsell characteristics of her colours and then arranges them according to the 3D colour spectrum, exploring the relationship between them and the effect it has. Through such manipulation, Julian can achieve sinking or emergence of colour from the canvas surface while representing all sensations of it.
